Day 6 – March 25th – Pingyao

After finding the dining room we finished our breakfast and headed out to explore the ancient walled city of Pingyao.

A super ceramic tile in the breakfast room
Plenty of art in the hotel grounds
A super bonsai tree in our courtyard

We walked leisurely up to the main east gate of the city and decided that even a small place like this was too big to explore on foot so we embarked on a city tour in one of the many electric carts.

Our guide stopped at many places of interest for us to explore and take photos.

Adding a red bows to the guardian at your doorway increases your protection from evil.
Woodworking skills

We stopped at a medieval building showing ancient building crafts and how the buildings, gates and shrines were built with hand tools and with no nails or dowels, just superb interlocking craftsmanship.

A display of ancient artisans

This was a great way to see the city which although quite small would be tiring to visit in one day.

Coffee

At the end of the tour we stopped at a delightfully coffer shop and feeling refreshed we strode out on foot to see more of this most interesting place.

Gary and Diane decided to climb the city walls.
At the top!
Even the outside of the very clean and modern public toilets were suitably ornate.
Eventually we had to stop for refreshments!
And so back too the hotel ready for somewhere new tomorrow.
