Day 17 – April 5th – Haikou

On the airport coach from Macau to Hong Kong Airport

We took a taxi from the hotel to the Hong Kong Airport coach station where there is an airport check in desk and our cases were tagged to directly go to our plane in Hong Kong and onward to Haikou airport on the island of Hainan, our next stop.

The Coach goes over the longest sea bridge in the world at about 30 miles long. There are two sections of tunnels to allow the many ships to safely enter Macau and Hong Kong ports.

The coach goes directly into the airport terminal and so bypasses Hong Kong immigration which saves a lot of hassle,

We were pleased to see our cases had made it and took a taxi to our hotel, I must admit my mistake as we arrived at the wrong hotel, however another 5 minute taxi took us to the correct place.

Half a boat in my room

The hotel was superbly decorated and the biggest surprise was finding half a boat in my room!

Lovely place

In the evening we went out for a drink and found ourselves in “alcohol avenue”.

Just a load of chairs and tables along the waters edge, where a young guy appeared with some menus, mainly cocktails and beer brands we didn’t like,

“Got any Tsing Dao beer” we asked, and he said he would get some, to our surprise he jumped on his electric scooter and sped off down the road.

A few minutes later he came back with cold beers from the local shop and some glasses! What great service! he didn’t have our preferred beer so got some for us and still for only 50p more than normal.

The buildings all lit up

And so we spent a lovely warm evening here just watching the boats go by, a peaceful end to a mainly travel day from Macau to Haikou via Hong Kong.

See you later for a day in Haikou
