Was woken at 6AM by the noise of a tropical storm wreaking havoc with the trees outside my hotel window. Branches being torn off and littering the pavements and roads.
Thunder and lightening filled the sky. I thought to myself that this could be a wasted day and so asked ChatGPT for rainy day ideas.
Go to the Grand View shopping mall it suggested, it’s the best!
And so I called a taxi and 20 minutes later we were dropped off at a huge shopping mall. Not normally my sort of thing but this was very different.
In the lower ground level along with many restaurants and coffee shops we found a bakery for a brunch of toasted sandwiches and hash browns, very oriental !

So we spent a pleasant couple of hours there while the rain cleared away and were soon back at our hotel for a brief rest before setting out for the Canton Tower.
The Canton Tower is a 600-metre-tall (2,000 ft) multipurpose observation tower and was topped out in 2009 and it became operational on 29 September 2010.
The tower briefly held the title of the tallest tower in the world before being surpassed by the Tokyo Skytree. It was the tallest structure in China prior to the topping out of the Shanghai Tower on 3 August 2013.

We collected our tickets from the ground floor ticket office and the elevator whisked us skywards.
Gary was nonchalantly leaning on the glass door until he realised the lift was on the outside and he could see a 1,000 foot drop just inches away.
The usual souvenir shop greeted us at the top with some stunning views over the Pearl River.

Unfortunately I was unable to get tickets for the bubble car ride at the top.
So we made our way down the tower and at the exit was a super stylish piano.

Diane had been on the internet and found a good place for a drink and bite to eat and we soon found our way to “Hooleys Irish bar”

A couple of beers and a steak and ale pie later we ended our time here ready for our next stop.
