Days 21 & 22 – Chengdu

Yesterday we spent a lazy morning packing and having a relaxed breakfast before heading to Sanya Internationasl Airport for the 3 hour flight to Chengdu.

waiting for our flight in Sanya phoenix Airport

We landed at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport whch turned out to be 32 miles from the downtown area where our hotel was located. and checked in to our rooms.

Another spacious room
With a 100″ projector TV
very modern spacious rooms for only £35 per night
great warning sign on hotel window, well it was 20th floor!
Our rooms also had washing machines

When I booked our rooms I was pleased to se they were equipped with washing machines, which would be useful half way through our 4-week holiday.

Not quite being able to figure out which setting to use I uploaded a photo to ChatGPT which identified the machine and which setting to use. So after a quick shower we went out in search of a cold beer.

Ten minutes later we found the rooftop bar on the 22nd floor of the St. Regis Hotel and relaxed for a while. It was a lovely warm evening andwe wandered back towards our hotel where we had spotted a hotpot restaurant earlier.

Here we enjoyed some refreshments much cheaper tha the St. Regis rooftop bar!

The following evening we set out for the Chengdu Bamboo Lights, known as the “Tower of Life” or Giant Bamboo Fountain, are spectacular 39m high light and fountains at the SKP shopping Mall . These six giant bamboo structures feature LED lights, misting effects, and cascading water and ar truly superb with their changing lighing effects and water effects.

The shopping mall was very upmarket and had some great art sculptures and high end shops such as tiffanys and Cartier.

Another place we wanted to see were the “Chengdu Twin Towers”

The Chengdu Twin Towers, or Tianfu Twin Towers, are two 200m tall skyscrapers in the city’s financial district, representing a modern landmark with a massive LED light show on Tianfu Avenue. Completed in 2020, they feature “ice flower” patterned facades covering 52,000m2.

This was a truly spectacular end to another memorable day in China.
